All PCs at home have been replaced by Mac whatever. The old Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 Professional are migrated to Windows 10 as Virtual Machines in Mac, and frankly they are open very occasionally.

Is there any reason to keep the Windows 7 DVDs?

Hi Ivan. You might come across an older Windows 7 computer used by friends or family that would require a Windows 7 DVD to repair, so I would keep them as you never know if a situation arises that calls for using a Windows 7 DVD.

When Windows 10 goes belly-up (as it inevitably will), you will be grateful for the Win 7 DVDs if you still need to use Windows for anything.

Chumpkin: Is this the Dell listed in your system specs.?Did that come with Win XP Pro 32-bit preinstalled? My old desktop was 16 years old when I had to retire it. I built it and installed Win XP Pro. Then upgraded most of the hardware, purchased and installed Win 7 Ultimate 32-bit using an OEM DVD. Is that what you basically did, if so, then the Win 7 DVD and Installation DVD are one in the same. If you go to Control Panel\Backup and Restore. Look in the Left Pane it gives the option to Create a system repair disc. I suggest you create one. Just in case you experience some sort of catastrophic error. Whenever I purchase a new laptop the first the thing I do is create a set of recovery DVDs and a system repair DVD.

My machine was given to me for Christmas and did not have an Installation CD. Program Key. I have a Dell Desktop machine I sent the system specs. to the Forum.

    reason to keep Win.7 DVD

ij50: A while back some one posted that the program key was in the registry. If this is true, how do I find it? Thanks for your help.

H_KEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion. In the right pane highlight DigitalProductId(32-bit) DigitalProductId4(64-bit). But you find it's a binary value.

ij50 Thank you for the info. but I am afraid to mess with the registry. I am a 81 yr. old man and don't feel comfortable in the registry. I downloaded Belarc Adviser and found what it sais was the product installation key for my Win 7 Pro. It don' t look any product key that I have seen.1st block has 5 numbers 2nd. block has 3 numbers and the other blocks has different numbers in the block and letters in the last block. I thank you again. I will mark this thread resolved.
    Best Wishes, Johnny

Hi cbumpkin. Please don't hijack another person's thread. In the future if you have a similar question, just create your own thread, thanks.

    Hi Evan:
Evan I did not hijack that thread. I had a thread posted about the difference in a dvd an a cd and got a notification that ils0 had responded, and it gave the location of the response link. When I clicked the link il50 had tied it into another link. I thought this was strange and against the posting rules but went ahead and communicated with il50. I am sorry about this infraction and if anything like that comes up again I will not answer.
    Best Wises cbumpkin

Right, but you should have started your own thread instead. Even if your question is similar, you will get better attention if you create your own thread instead of posting in an existing one.

Evan: I'm sorry this happened. I really believed that it would be ok It won't happen again. I appreciate you correcting me.

Evan I think of you as a friend so I will tell you that the neurologist diagnosed me having Muscular Dystrophy to go along with the Parkinson's disease. Prayers needed.
Hope I don't get in trouble for inserting this personal message. Thanks
