Msconfig is gone

I installed a logitech webcam software which insists on starting up when windows starts, so I thought I'd go and kill it as usual in "msconfig" but to my big surprise, when I type "msconfig" in the run dialogue, it says: "Windows cannot find 'msconfig'. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again..." etc.

I've used mscofig before on this install, so something must have happend. I think I remember a message saying something like "Windows has recovered from a serious problem..." a couple of days ago. Could that have something to do with it maybe?

Do you still have the msconfig.exe file? If so, what happens when you double click on it?

Open Windows Explorer and do a search for MSCONFIG.EXE

Was the file found? If so does it work if you double click on it?

If the file isn't found, or if double clicking on it does not cause it to start you can try a System Restore and select a restore point prior to the error message you received.

Yes, I found the file and it started when I double clicked it. But it still doesn't work from the run dialogue. Go figure...

 

Interesting indeed. One obvious solution, at least to make it easier to access, is to make a short cut to the program and copy the shortcut over to your desktop or programs menu.

Check your PATH statment in:

My Computer > right click > Properties > Advanced > Environmental Variables. Down in the bottom field you'll see the PATH statement. Highlight it and select EDIT. Then scroll through it from start to finish. Here's what mine says and will work for you as well:

%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program files\PC-Doctor for Windows XP\WINDSAPI;C:\program files\winzip;C:\
