Windows 10 did an unexpected update today and now email will not send/receive. Did what microsoft said to do about it - delete the email address and add it back - :eek:NOT WORKING....not surprising since nothing microsoft has ever told me to do has worked........

Have worked with this all day and decided I'm done with win10, so I tried to go back to Windows 7 only to find that is no longer an option. Short of resetting my laptop back to the original OS, do I have any options?

Have you tried a System Restore before the update? Neil.

Yes, I tried System Restore. Did not realize that Windows10 turns it off and removes any previous restore points.

Prior to the update, I was using Live Mail.
I learned afterwards that it isn't compatible with the update and stopped working, so tried using Windows Mail that is the app for Windows 10. It is stuck trying to sync email. The fix microsoft gives for it leaves you pretty much chasing your tail.

I use WLM on my PC and so does the wife and a lot of my friends. Haven't had a problem with it on any of them.

    Found this. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2505524

Look part way down the page where is says Resolution. See it that helps.

There was an update for Windows Live Mail in Dec/Jan for winders 10. Search for Winlivemailupdate.msp and see if it solves the problem.

Thanks for getting me thinking on the right track again.

I uninstalled WLM and then did a reinstall. That worked well but kept getting a logon request. I finally deleted the email account and added it back again. Amazingly, that seemed to work. Go figure.....

On the other hand, I made sure that Windows 10 updates do not occur until I want them and am setting my restore point to on again. Might be a good thing to check occasionally, since I do not know how it is getting turned off to begin with. I run virus checks biweekly with AVG and Malware and have SuperAntiSpyware on hand, too. I even occasionally run Spybot and ZoneAlarm is always on.

whew! Did I leave anything out?

Don't know about the other partition, but defragging Win is not necessary anymore. Since Windows 7, the defrag does a good job of defragging itself on its own. Not really necessary anymore unless you are constantly working on very large files all day long. Look at your schedule information in the attachment. It shows ON and that is all that is needed. That is default since 7.

Had forgotten about the defrag being always on. Have removed a lot of pictures from this pc and wanted to run it anyway. Just was surprised when the third partition showed up. It hasn't been there before. Could the windows 10 update have something to do with it?

From what I am reading, the extra partition IS due to the update in Windows 10 as a recovery option.
