When Windows 10 barged in and installed itself on my lap-top, it deleted Win-8.1 and IE-11. We use two different log-ins, one for family and friends and the other for on-line shopping and other non-family activities. One log-in was associated with IE and the other with Google Chrome and I usually had both of them up and switched from one to the other when necessary.

A few weeks back, checking some software files, I found one labelled "Internet Explorer 11.old" instead of ".exe ". I had intended to resurrect it but can no longer find it.

This morning, our internet service provider (Comcast) put up a window offering IE-11 as a freebie. When I tried to download it, I got a message saying "Internet Explorer is incompatible with your Operating System ". Is it true that IE-11 won't play with Win-10? I truly dislike the browser that W-10 came with, but I'm not happy having just Google Chrome.

    Ideas, please.

Sven is right. W10 did not delete IE11. It just made Edge the default and it is a very simple process to make IE11 the default again.

Just go to Settings > Apps and features > Default apps and change it to IE.

??? That sounds very suspicious to me. Are you sure it was from Comcast? IE is not Comcast's to offer. I would definitely ignore that offer then scan your computer for malware.

Actually, Bill, as I understand the wording of the pitch, what Comcast was offering is a version of IE11 tailored by Microsoft to provide some Comcast-specific features.

I don't believe it! I believe you, not Comcast. Microsoft does not "brand" IE for other companies. It is more like Comcast modified IE to force their users to automatically log into Comcast homepage, receive Comcast ads and worse, be tracked by Comcast and send personal data to Comcast. :( Don't do it. IE11 is built into W10 and works just fine as is.

Windows 10 doesn't delete previous versions. It would be there so that if you didn't like 10, you could roll back to the previous version within 30 days.

Right - at least for 30 days, plenty of time to decide if you want to roll back to a previous version. After 30 days, the windows.old folder is deleted to free up a large chunk of disk space.

I think Frank has gone past the 30 days and he still rants about it. Start > Settings > System > Default Apps. Neil.

I hadn't noticed the "Incompatibility" message was from Comcast.
