    Hi there..
I have win98 SE and IE 6.0. This problem just started happening recently and I can't figure out why. If I click on a link that requires a second window to open (not to be confused with ad popups), the window will open but it just hangs. Nothing will load in the page. The only way I can get it to do anything is by hitting "stop" and then "refresh" in the secondary window, but this shouldn't have to happen. I've been looking around in here and haven't found any similar notes. I've tried freeing start up programs, defragging, I reset my IE preferences to default. I have a broadband connection. Memory and/or internet connection shouldn't be a problem in my case. I did see something in here about the hosts file in windows, I opened that and it was blank-not sure if that applies to me.
    Any ideas?

    Hi johnlyman
Welcome to the boards! Any chance you're using a pop-up stopper. Or perhaps give this a go?

I followed Daizy's first link and eventually got to http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q281679
New Window is Blank or Nothing Happens When You Click a Link

    Under RESOLUTION it says:
So, if you were already considering IE6 SP1 now would be a good time :)

    Still no go

I'm trying everything I can think of and it's still messing up. I tried uninstalling IE and I thought I did but it's still on my machine. Well, if there's any other ideas let me know. Until then at least I have netscape.

    No progress..

I tried uninstalling IE so I could reinstall it. I thought I had uninstalled it but when I tried to reinstall I got a message saying I already had IE 6.0 on my computer. I'm not sure what to do now! I did use windows update and it doesn't seem to make any difference.

    Still won't work!

Nope, sorry. That doesn't work either. YOu know, I did install a program a few weeks ago called "pop up stopper." I didn't like it so I uninstalled it but I wonder if that program messed with my computer. I wonder if there's something in my .ini files or something that's causing this problem. I do also have a pc monitoring program installed to watch what my kids are doing on the computer but I don't think that has anything to do with it. I've had that program for a long time and it never caused a problem before. I don't know enough about .ini files to be randomly messing with them.

Hey! Guess What? I found the answer!

I did some more searching on the net and found the answer (or at least it appears so). It looks like it was a problem with oleaut32.dll. Apparently a user was having the same problem as me and also had a problem with something called RPC stub. I found that ironic so I tried the fix and it seems to work.
