Need help networking! XP to 2000

I did look at my last thread regarding this but it didn't help me. I got it hooked up by a fluke last time. Sorry!

I have:

Laptop:

Computer name: Laptop
OS: Windows XP
Network name: MSHOME


PC:
computer name: crysti
OS: Windows 2000
Network Name:MSHOME

The PC is okay, nothing has changed there. I had to reinstall the WinXP on this laptop so I lost all my settings. I know I'm missing some things to get this going.

One is how to set up Netbui?

Actually I should say

just configure the XP computer to share files via network.

I connect to cable internet via hub. both comps connect via hub to the internet.

 

Here is how Microsoft says install NetBeui on XP.

Thanks for the link. I for the life of me cannot remember HOW I did it last time, it was a total fluke. Figures!!

 

K, got that installed okay.

Now I'm messing with this and cannot figure out how I got these two together last time!!

Any suggestions anyone?? I'm lost, again

 

If you have NetBeui running on both boxes and they have different computer names (with legal names which means nothing other than alphanumerics and no spaces) and they are in the same workgroup and they are on the same wire (which connecting to the same hub will do) they should be perfectly willing to talk to each other.

If all the above is correct and they still can't talk, make sure
- the XP box has both usernames/passwords installed as users
- the 2K box does as well
- you have stuff shared

And maybe a couple other things to check for/do depending on if you have XP-home or XP-Pro

I may be missing is the network name. I know how to change that on the XP but can't figure it out on the 2K. Maybe that is my problem. Do you know how to figure that out?? Other than that, I should be okay. Something just isn't clicking.
