    Good Day everyone.

I am attempting to help someone out by trying to figure out what is wrong with the computer.

On pluging it in and turning it on I get normal startup
then the blue screen of death.
it gives me an error message
    ENU10K1F(01)+0020255 error :0028: FF177CD5
    press any key bla bla
will bring up desk top but immediately goes into the screen that says desktop recovery.
System will stay stable for about 5 mins then soft lock up.
soft lock up slows to full lock.

So I attempted to work with the computer in safe mode.
Stayed stable ran all day-deleted garbage-cookies, cache and some programs.
    ran scan disk and defrag
tried to boot normally blam back at square one.
It will not let me wipe and load-the start up disk he gave me is bad so I need some ideas for that too
    Any suggestions?

    Hi gelfie
Welcome to the boards. Can you double check those error messages and post them back exactly please? Have you tried using one of the restore points to a time before this started happening?

    And it's ENU10K1F(01)+
    Not EMU10K1F(01)+
    Correct?

If that's your only restore point, you've not got all your critical updates installed.

You might want to try a restore point from a
    command prompt.

That error message means nothing to me. I've done a search, and have pulled up absolutely nothing, though I'll keep looking.

Do you have any splats in the device manager?

Splats meaning those yellow exclamation points?

if so no, I checked there. I did find some in the networking info-but I took those out the computer is not set up for networking.

Well, I'm stuck. I would have sworn that it was a Soundblaster Live Sound Card. But not if that's your error message.

You might want to try removing it from yoru device manager, just for grins and giggles and let windows re-detect it on boot up?

    That's better.
Try as I mentioned in above post. If it's a no go......... please, could you post back the FULL and COMPLETE error message?

Do you have a Soundblaster Live entry in your add/remove programs?

I think we have a winner!
So far so good I can at least boot up without error message. Now I am getting it to stay on with out locking up.
Trying to save his files on CDdisc for him so he can add what he wants to later on. You were great. Wished I had known all this yesterday <chuckle> Thanks again!
