I upgraded to Win 10 on my Lenovo T400 laptop and all is well except, I cannot change the wireless network from Public to Private. It is referred to Unidentified network in Network Connections.

Troubleshooter returns one or more network protocols are missing on this computer

All settings in Sharing Options are set to turn on network discovery.
I have changed the settings in secpol.msc - Network List Manager Policies so that the network Location is set to Private.

Noting I do changes the location to Private and therefore, I cannot get online via wireless.

Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks

Found the problem. The Intel WiFi Link 5100 wireless card is not supported.

    Darn...

If anyone can suggest a workaround, please let me know.

Thanks but it isn't part of a home group. Even if I create the home group it doesn't offer the option of changing the location. Sadly, it's the wireless card.

This is like the pain that goes away when you visit the Dr....

I brought the laptop to my brother's home and connected to his wireless network without a hitch. Restarted multiple times and it automatically connected each time.

He has a dLink router with a WPA-Personal setting. Auto mode. I have my ISP's (Bell Canada) modem/router with the same security settings.

I'm open to suggestions as to why it won't at my place when my other laptop, wife's LT, iPad, iPhone, etc. all connect without problems.

Answer - move in with your brother :D
Can you update the software in your Bell Canada modem/router.
Have you tried a Reset of the Modem? Neil.
Is your laptop on this list: "Lenovo supported systems list for Windows 10 Upgrade "

I would rather have dial up then adopt the first suggestion :p

I will have a go at the router on Sunday when I get back and let you know.

    Thanks

Problem turned out to be the ISP's router. I installed a new one and everything is good

    Thanks for the input
