I have a win7 system running three sata drives and am trying to repair an ssd sata drive from a laptop, but my system won't recognize the new drive. I have tried a good ssd drive, which also won't be recognized.

Can some one give me some pointers as to what I can try?
    Thanks,
    Joe Arbunic

    Thanks for your reply,

I am connecting the new drive in place of one of my other working drives, so the port, cable etc are good since they worked with the removed drive...

If its a laptop SATA drive, it may not use the same type of SATA connection depending on the type of drive it is. Some have power and data built together and dont use the Desktop type connector for power.
Found this on another post on a different forum. Never had the chance to do anything like this.

This is best clue as to why it's not being recognized!
What's wrong with it that you need to repair it?

Both the laptop drive and my good drive have identical connectors and the good drive is one I have previously used in my PC. There must be another reason the added drives are not recognized by my PC...

    You didn't answer Tony:

It looks like the drive is dead.

I am trying to recover data left on the drive. I also have a good sata drive which has been used in my pc before and that drive also is not recognized by the pc now. So the problem is definitely in the PC since it won't recognize a known good drive.

I gathered from what you stated, that your Desktop was working OK but you couldn't 'see' the additional drive when you connected it/them as you said you tried a 'good SSD drive' as well.
Are the SATA connectors/cables all in good condition. You should confirm these points first. Neil.

That is correct, I have 3 working sata drives in my pc and am trying to connect a ssd from a laptop. I also have another ssd which worked fine in the pc in the past, but won't show up when I connect it in. I am using the power and sata connectors from one of the existing sata drives in the pc so I know the power and sata port are good.
