My HP dv4-2167sb running win 7 Ult. 64-bit crashed. Installed updates show SP 1 is installed. There are two versions of IE 8 listed in All programs. One Internet Explorer 64-bit the other is listed as Internet Explorer. I can't seem to find a way to enable option for IE to check for newer versions and the check box to Install Newer versions Automatically in Help/About Internet Explorer is not there.

Odds are the option isn't included in IE 8... It is in IE 11 on Win 7.

In theory, you should get an option in regular Windows Updates to upgrade to a more recent version.
