If, like me, you find that the desktop button adjacent to the time/date in the Taskbar is far too small (<2mm) - less than half the size it was in Win 7 this shortcut may be of interest.

From the Desktop create a new shortcut to .....

    C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C "%appdata%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\Shows Desktop.lnk "

    and name it Desktop

Change the icon to whatever suits you and pin to the Taskbar and position it where you want it - adjacent to the Task View icon is a good place.

If you use High Contrast themes it actually enlarges it to a quarter of an inch and has a cute lil desktop icon. But yes I know those themes are awefull black and white. So I have been spending my time these days creating super awesome colored themes. Currently I have made 30 and my latest is a Miami Dolphins. I could not stand the BLINDING White backgrounds of the Explorer and other windows so I set out on a mission to alter the colors. Microsoft should be ashamed by rushing out 10 and removing the colorization features and only coloring the top bar in Threshold 2 is unacceptable. I know why, because there are conflicts with color palettes in the taskbar and live tiles. I have found a way around these problems. I will post a pic later and my favorite is blue.

You can also copy the shortcut from C:\Users\Username\Appdata\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Winx\Group1 folder.

I cannot live without the old QuickLaunch toolbar which is still readily available in W10. So if like me, you can easily add a Show Desktop icon to that instead of the Taskbar.

Also, don't forget the Windows key + d keyboard shortcut will quickly toggle between the desktop and your open windows.

Actually, when enabling the Quick Launch toolbar, the show desktop shortcut is already there by default so there is no need to add it manually.

Yep. You are right. I've used the QL for so long, I forgot how Show Desktop got there! Thanks.
