I tried to install latest Flash Player, pop up says that I must close IE. Restarting computer apparently does not do this, as the pop up surfaces again. Help on this will be most appreciated. Thanks Bobby.

Adobe Flash is extremely insecure - the majority of websites accessed through Firefox require you to allow on a one off basis.

If you are using IE it has it's own version of Flash built in and updated by MS.

If you really want to install Adobe Flash - not sure if you can do that alongside the IE specific version - make sure IE is closed - can also do this by ending process via Task Manager. As you are failing to install Flash the pop up will come up after each reboot.

I fully agree that FlashPlayer is insecure. How can you view BBC iPlayer without FP?

I see your point - it would seem that I have Adobe Flash installed on my computer :)

I fired up my Win 7 box, went to BBC iPlayer with IE, clicked on a show and received the message to install Flash.Clicked on the button to install, unchecked the optional download of Chrome. When the download was completed the window shown below was displayed. Restarted IE and the show was available to view. There was NO message to close the browser other than as shown below.
No idea why you see this, but try closing IE via Task Manager - see below.

Open Task Manager - right click on Taskbar and select Task Manager. Open the Processes tab, click on the first iexplore.exe and then on End Process. See if that works for you.

Apology, failed to mention that I connected to Adobe for their latest version of FP. Installing the update, displayed the pop up that I mentioned.I found out that if you save file to the Downloads, it erases after the install has been carried out. However, if the Download is saved also to another HD or flash stick before install, you have a permanent copy for future install.

Finally after using the saved copy from separate HD it finally installed. Reading comments relating to FP, the BBC will continue to use FP until a new software the BBC is working on as BETA is finalised but not for sometime. As you say, we are opened to attacks or not use iPlayer.

Glad to hear that you succeeded in installing Flash!

FYI - in Firefox if Flash is required it can be activated on a one off basis for that site.

    Pete,
That's not true for Windows 7. See Internet Explorer 11 - FAQ for IT Pros for some interesting information.

    Bobby,
That "permanent copy" would have a very short "use before date ". Updated versions of FP are released on a regular basis. Also, you need different versions. For IE you need the ActiveX Control, for FF you need the Plugin. You always find the most recent version at Adobe Flash Player Distribution.

Christer, Adobe Flash Player Distribution, if clicked it installs FP but fails due to an error 1722 "Windows Installer. Contact your Support Personnel or Vendor ". I further checked my BBC iPlayer, and is working properly. In this instance FP was already installed and above error was of no significance.

    Bobby,
I don't know the reason for that error message but I always download the setup file and run it locally.

I like to save any file downloaded and after disconnect from the Net, then install the update or file.
