I recently swapped my hard drive with a new 60 gig hard drive.
After installation Norton Utilities would not run indicating something about a setup problem. Norton said that they had identified a problem. Their only advice was to remove and reinstall Norton Utilities. This did not help.
At some point I got an error message asking if I wanted to fix something or other concerning disk size. I repaired and Norton now runs normally even speed disk whcih would not run berfore.
I have recently defragged the drive.
Now Norton System Information and dos report the drive as a21.47 gig size.
Is this reading of any concern in any way. Don't want to make an issue of something insignificant.
Sure is nice to have such a large hard drive !!!! Unbelievable and unfathomable what you get for your money now.

    :) :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

What proceedure did you use to swap?

How did you get the data from 1 drive to the other?

If your old drive was a 20G drive it sounds as though you copied the exact image to the new drive leaving the other 40G of your new HD unformated!?

It is not to your benifit to use PM to do the initial setup of the HD.

It needs to be first checked and partitioned using the software that came with it.

That checks for bad sectors etc. and marks same so the that do not get used.

Then it can be formated with Win98 format.

I set up a 40gig without using the disk software and had nothing but inconsistancies with it.

After this is done then PM can be used to make size changes.

Also If you have an older version of NU it May not be reliable that new dirve.

which software are you referring to ?

There should be a Floppy that came with the new HD.

If it is reading 21+gig I do not believe it is a BIOS problem.

    results of hd disc test

first of all to all the "guys" here thanks for your help. Windowsbbs is sure a usefull source of helpfull and relevant information.
    BillyBob,
    I did as you said.
First of all the startup data of the "speed demon "

    Bios V4.01 4.51 pg Award
    apollo VP3 AGP chip
    Amd-k6-2/350 cpu
    award plug and play v 1.0 a
    ide primary master

now when I tried to install the hard drive it was not recognized
(as I remember). They did a workaround with the bios with a product called Ez Bios.
on running the disc which came with the hard drive the first error that I get is" " Bios is not accessing the full capacity. System Bios is not controlling properly your drives "
As I recall somewhere out of the blue I recieved an error message and a fix request about reading my hard drive. The
wrong readings seem to appear after the fix. However Norton defrag now works where it did not before (config problems)
The data from running the test is as follows:

OK. It does look like it might be a BIOS problem of some sort.

But it is beyond my knowledge now.

You need more help now than I can provided.

The install killed the EZ Bios loader.

Back up the drive (drive inage etc)

Rerun the WD EZ util and reformat let it reinstall the BIOS support.

    Restore the image!
