installing xp: Should I disconnect my printer and scanner first?

    I am getting ready to install windows xp. Should I disconnect my printer and scanner first?

    Yes you are better off disconnecting every external device except speakers.

    Includes modems and network cables.

    If this Install CD is not the SP1 version and you can download the full SP1 service pack and get it burnt to a CD so it can be installed directly after Xp is installed and clean. This is not reasonable if you have only a dialup modem as the full SP1 is very large.

    Then get all onboard hardware running correctly if possible.

    Before any other software is installed.

    Then!

    Do only what is nessesary to connect to the internet.

    Then connect to windows update and get all updates before any software firewalls or virus scanners are installed.

    Once the OS is up clean all service packs and updates then begin the install of applications and virus scanners and firewalls.
