Resolved where is my "M" drive, and .....

    where is my "M" drive, and why does Win10 keep looking for it on boot up/ start up?

    If the M drive doesn't show up in my computer - you don't have one.

    Did you install or uninstall any sotfware around the time this started?

    not that i recall, but why do i get an error message pop-up that says retry, continue, cancel?

    Does it show the drive in disk management?

    yes it shows up in the file explorer left column, but when i click on the drive, it says insert disc into drive "

    Try using Disk Management and change the drive letter to a different one and see what that does. Reboot.

    Hi chaosrn, File Explorer in W10 is on your Taskbar - Disc Management > Right click Start > click on Disc Management > if you see M: > Right click on it > Menu will open as MasterChief suggested. Neil.

    when i follow that i get this message "cannot save the archive 'diskmgmt.zip' to the folder 'C:\windows\system32.' please choose a differet folder' and if i say "ok ", then i get a standard file save box, and if i then right click on the "M" drive i get another pop-up, and i try to choose "Eject" but nothing changes

    :-(

    I'm not sure if Win 10 has this, but all other versions do.....

    Click on Start->Run and type MSCONFIG

    Look in the startup tab. Odds are you'll see a reference to something that wants to read off the M - cd drive... If found -unchek it.

    So does the disk management say that the drive is "Healthy "?

    WAIT, JUST FIGURED IT OUT!!!!!!!!

    turns out it is the built-in disc reader in my HP Photoprinter 8100!!!!
    turned it on and plugged a memory card in and it pops up !
