I am trying to add a user and something is wrong.

Firstly, the Guest Account does not show in the User Accounts to turn it on. There is a user folder entitled Guest but this may be a residual from Windows 8.

I did find some advice that it could be enabled in Computer Management but the relevant Local Users and Groups item which was the next one to click does not appear.

Next I created a User and then when I went to log on, I was unable to and received a message that it was unable to load the user account. The created User account did not have its User Folder even after rebooting.

I tried creating a dummy folder but this did not help.

It would appear this is a bug in Windows 10 and i am asking if anyone knows of a work around on this

Create a local user account in Windows 10

Here's how to create another account on your PC for a child or someone else who doesn't have a Microsoft account.

In the search box on the taskbar, type settings and select Settings.

Select Accounts > Other user accounts.

Under Manage other accounts, select Add an account.

At the bottom of the page, select Sign in without a Microsoft account.

    Select Local account.

Enter a name for the new account. If you want this person to sign in with a password, enter and verify the password, add a password hint, and then select Next.

    Select Finish.

See: Create a local user account in Windows 10

Yes. I have done all that and the user appears at login. The point is that when that user attempts to log in it is rejected.

Have you tried: Start > Settings > Accounts > Family and other users > Add a Family member???
I haven't had to do it - but it looks fairly straight forward to me. Neil.

Things are different with w10. The overlay of 10 has moved many options from the "Control Panel" to the "Settings" option in the start menu and this could be the difference. It is a lil crazy that they would do this but everyone should get familiar with Settings as this seems to control most 10 options.

I think there is some confusion as to the nature of the actual problem. Setting up a new user account is pretty much as it has always been in the control panel and I note Masterchief's comments about it being in Settings (the Control Panel takes you to Settings)

The problem is that using either option, no User folder is created for the new user even after a reboot and when the new user goes to log on it doesn't load which I assume is due to the fact that there is no folder from which it can load. Trying to create a dummy folder hasen't helped and as this is a Windows 8 uograde and there was a previous guest account, I tried changing the name on the guest folder to the new user and that hasn't worked either.

I would also like to have a guest account which seems to have disappeared.

As matters now stand, if this is a Windows 10 bug, thgen all Windows 10 computers are limited to a single user.

Further to my last post, I have now tried setting up a new user on another Windows 10 computer and it all went as expected. It is obviously an anomaly on this computer only.

The question is "Is there any way of fixing it without doing a clean install of Windows and having to set up my user account completely anew as well as re-installing everything? "

This could be true as for the 8 to 10 upgrade machine that I did, I did a clean install afterwards to make sure I didn't have issues. I am not a fan of upgrades for similar reasons.
