Nothing was abnormal when I shut down the computer last night.

But this morning when I started the computer, Windows started in Safe Mode, because when I was trying to solve problems the IO bit software put the windows in automatic safe mode restart. I didn't quite know how to get it to the normal restart.

So, I restarted the computer. It would go through the Dell logo and the windows 10 logo and hangs with a black screen. I force shut the computer and started it again 3 times with the same result. Now I resorted to get into windows in safe mode with networking; that's how I am able write this note.

    Hi Evan:

Thanks for your helpful suggestion. I tried to do system restore. It went through the process but had the same trouble in logging in: windows hang with a black screen after the log. So, I tried windows 10 installation disk to repair the C: drive, but it wouldn't let me do it, because it said the C drive was locked. So I used EasyRE Windows Recovery (which I put on a cd before) and let it run. It ran through it and I was able to boot to the desktop finally. I think things are ok now.

I looked into the C drive being locked and apparently it had to do with ownership problems of the C: drive. I went ahead and changed permissions area in the properties/security to give full control to users, and whatever, so I won't run into that problem again. Just to make sure everything is running ok, I rebooted the computer, and it went through it fine.

I did not uninstall IOBit start menu 8, because I found I could restart without going through the Safe Mode by using the Power button on the start.

I think that's the summary of whatever I did regarding the problem.

And thank you, again, for your help.

    Moorty

Don't forget you have Troubleshooting available in W10 which will be very helpful if you strike problems. ;) Neil.

Alright then. Do you have any other concerns regarding Windows 10 or would you consider this issue resolved?

No, I don't have anything else. Yes, the issue is resolved. Sorry, I should have marked so yesterday. Thanks.
