    Good afternoon,
I have an Acer 5733 laptop and the drive is bad.
I rec'd the new drive and installed it however, after starting my recovery disk and selecting language the default partition size reads GB and not a specified size. The recovery starts and about 5 seconds later a message appears that reads, " insufficient disk space" and the recovery process aborts.
Please note I have two identical 5733 laptops. I can remove the known good drive from my known good laptop and place it into the laptop with the bad drive issue and it boots into Windows 7 nicely and when I place the new rec'd drive in my known good laptop I get the same message.
Could the drive be defective from the vendor due in fact I don't see a designated partition size? I thought the partition formats dung the install process.
    As always,
    Thank you

Receiving a defective drive has been known to happen. I ordered a new WDC 2.5" HDD directly from Western Digital Corporation. It would only load the OS to a certain point and then it would freeze. WDC sent me another new HDD no questions asked.

It might pay to Download the HDD manufacturers Diagnostic Test Software and run that to confirm HDD is faulty before registering a complaint. Neil.

After downloading the diagnostics, the drive is indeed bad.
    Thank you

Not sure that is true anymore. Years ago, that was but today, modern operating system may just expect the drive be formatted at the factory.

If me, I would attempt to format it with the recovery program, or install that drive as a secondary drive into, or attached to another computer and then attempt to format it (not quick, but full format).
