Can SKS help with an irritating feature of Explorer?

Assume that I have several files in a folder. I then create a subfolder, and transfer some of the files to that subfolder. Why, when I later open the original folder in Explorer, do I see listed both the new subfolder and also the transferred files? I don't think this happened in XP.

Are you sure that you are moving the files ? - I suspect you are copying them, in which case they will appear in both folders.

And be careful with move or Cut n Paste. If the files are large and the process gets interrupted, you can lose the files forever.

When I move the files from the parent folder to the child folder , I highlight and drag. Clicking on the child folder shows that the files have indeed been moved. From a fresh bootup, opening the parent folder does not show the transferred files (as expected and desired), and opening the child folder does show the files.

But then if I open the parent folder again, the files are shown in the parent folder together with the child folder. Maybe this is intended by Microsoft, but I've never noticed it before, or indeed with Win XP (of blessed memory).

It seems that if the child folder is shown in the left windows of Explorer, the files are not shown in the parent folder. If the child folder is not shown in the left widow of Explorer then the files are listed as being within the parent folder. I hope I've explained that adequately.

I understand what you are saying, but I cannot reproduce such behavior on my reference Windows 7 PC. It certainly is not 'by design'.

Here is what MS says about Move and copy files using drag and drop
The behavior is different depending on whether or not the drag and drop is to the same drive or to a different drive - in your case the drive is the same.
