I recently transferred the data from an HP 32bit Pavilion dv6000 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium to a newer laptop. The 'new' laptop is an HP 64bit 630 also with Windows 7 Home Premium. The data transfer was accomplished with the older units hard drive removed and connected to the newer laptop. This was due to the older computer had overheating issues which causes it to shutdown.

The data was 'copied' to the newer unit, and retained in the older one as well. The problem is that I cannot find some much needed document files in either computer. The missing files were Windows Word documents. It seems that there are some video files that have gone missing as well, but they are not of much concern (MP4 & WMV files) but I mention them only as they might be keeping the document files company in parts unknown. BTW both computers have Microsoft WORD installed and (seemingly) functioning. Searching for them with them just has not found any that I have tried.

I would greatly appreciate help in finding and recovering the missing files on either of the laptops. I cannot imagine they just took off into cyberspace!

    Thank you.

Hi, I'm wondering whether your Word versions are the same or whether it's a compatibility Problem. There are MS Word compatibility packs available to install so that earlier versions will work in newer versions.
Did you do 'drag & drop' to transfer your data? Or did you use WET (Windows Easy Transfer) Neil.

Hi Bearclaw. If the documents and video files really are missing then you might try downloading Recuva and see if that program can find your data that is missing from the drive.

Thanks for the reply Evan. I can't imagine what has happened here that made these files go into hiding. This might be the answer, and I think the best course is to install the program on the 'old' laptop first and see what it might find.
