Hi Andreslove69, Welcome to Windowsbbs! :)

If you have plugged the drive into multiple USB ports and tried it with more than one computer and its not recognized then that hard drive might be toast.

Try testing your USB drive using SeaTools for Windows. Run all the basic tests and see what comes up.

If the drive is not recognized by Seatools, have you tried a different USB cable? If that shows no results then you will have to bring in your drive to a professional data recovery service to get the data transferred off.

Ontrack, DriveSavers and Datarecovery are three well-known and respected* companies that can attempt to retrieve files off of a 'dead' hard drive. Pricing typically runs between a few hundred to a couple of thousand dollars (US).

There is no guarantee that usable data will be recovered however. If a drive is too damaged, the data is effectively gone. Also, if a drive was encrypted and the customer doesn't have the encryption key, recovery becomes extremely unlikely. Many hard drive manufacturers sell self-encrypting drives, with the decryption key on the drive's circuit board. In those cases, data-recovery requires the original, working circuit board.

Physical damage can leave a drive permanently unreadable. If the read/write heads have scraped the magnetic coating off the platter, there's nothing to recover. Dropping a drive with glass platters can shatter the platters, and no one is going to get magnetic bits off glass shards.

Desperate times need desperate tools, try the freezer treatment.

Hi Andreslove69, Welcome to WindowsBBS. :) Just to clarify - you knocked the USB drive (thumb drive?) and it's not showing in My Computer/Disc Management?
    Your laptop is running OK?
The USB connection still works with another unit?
I'm reading that your thumb drive is damaged? Neil.

Hi Neil, I would doubt very much if his 320GIG drive was a thumb drive.
    External USB more likely.

Thanks Bill. I didn't associate the heading with what his Post indicated. The 320GB is an external drive unit connected by USB to his comp - Gotcha now!
Could be the HDD in the external box is damaged. I doubt if the freezer will rescue that! Neil.

Remarkable results have been done with the freezer trick. But yes, you have to be lucky.
