Last night a friend sent me an e-mail with a YouTube attachment. It ran but there was no audio. I went to the YouTube site and tried that same clip there and some other clips, again no audio. The system sounds -- dings, chime, bells, etc., all worked OK. I got hasty and uninstalled my RealTek 6.0.1.7404 audio driver and upon restart a Digital Audio driver automatically downloaded and installed. I rebooted, but issue not fixed. Played an audio CD and it worked fine but still no YouTube audio. Did a system restore. No help. This morning I turned on my wife's laptop (it's on our home wi-fi) and played that same attached YouTube clip and got normal audio. Tried with my desktop again, no YouTube audio for that clip or any other clips I tried on the YouTube site. Ran a Malwarebytes scan, which found and fixed 13 PUP.Optional.DriverUpdate.A files. Did a Norton A-V scan, which found and fixed 4 Tracking Cookies. Still no YouTube audio. I thought maybe YouTube clips had a unique extension and file association and needed a special audio player, but I can't see that that's the case.

Why do I suddenly get no audio for YouTube clips but otherwise everything seems OK? My system specs are in my signature, below.

Did you check to see if there is an X to mute the sound in You Tube. Another thing Do you have the latest version of flash.

Thanks for replying. Yes, I do have the latest version of Flash, and just to make sure, I downloaded and installed it again just now. Still no audio for that YouTube clip. So, how do I open Flash so I can check its settings?

When you have the You Tube screen there is a volume speaker icon in the sound bar right under the where the video is playing is there an X next to it. If so click on the volume speaker icon to remove the X.

I just downloaded, installed the latest version of Adobe Flash Player. Low and behold I went to play a You Tube video and there was a X next to the volume speaker icon.

There was an X on mine, too. Got rid of it and the audio worked like a champ.
    Thanks for the help.

I'll now mark the thread as Resolved.
