HELP--can`t creat new folder

Every time I try and create a New Folder I get the "Explorer" window that reads..This program has performed an Illegal operation etc...When I put the curser on the New, it turns green, and just freezes,then the Explorer error window appears.
Tried the...My Document/View/New...as soon as the curser is on the New, no side menu for folder appears, just highlited and illegal oper. comes up. also tried using the right click and same things happens. Any Suggestions.

Have you any backups of your registry before thsi problem arose ?

I posted a problem last week in regards to creating a New Folder. Thank you MERLIN for direction with the problem. I took tower in, and it WAS a corrupt Registry Key.
