Do I install this update before installing windows 10? Also if I don't want to install windows 10 now that it has been downloaded how do you stop the nag? I hid the update for now. It is also wanting to clean up files. What files? Should I let it do this?

There are lines of thought about updates from manufacturer being better than accepting from WU. I think your comp will operate OK without the update.
    If in doubt try Intel.
Is it the Start Icon showing in the SysTray? Neil.

I read your link lj50. Thanks. Windows update has already downloaded the update to upgrade to windows 10. I now get a box come up that asks me to schedule the install.
I think the 'cleaning up files' message I was getting was because it was actually trying to do the install. Weird since I didn't tell it to.

Yes I know it's usually better to do manufacturer updates directly from their websites, I just didn't know if I needed the update. I don't want to mess with drivers unless I'm having a problem with them. I thought windows update was offering the intel update because I needed it for upgrade... probably windows update doesn't 'think' that way.

Yes I have the START orbit in the systray.

Be careful with certain drivers form Microsoft. In Windows 10 Microsoft downloaded and installed a graphics driver supposedly for my AMD ATI Radeon Switchable Graphics and when I restarted the machine it went into a boot loop. Now I'm not to sure if Windows 10 is for me right now or Microsoft is even on the right track forcing anything on it's users. I'm usually one of the first to get any new Windows OS and it is usually Professional or Ultimate.

Is windows 10 doing this without your ok? That's not good. Did it happen during upgrade?

I won't install anything just now then.

    Thanks.

All during the Technical Preview Builds. I could not auto update to next build so I had to create an iso disk for each new build update. Did the GWX upgrade and again the install ended in a boot loop. I went back to Win 7 Ultimate. You have until July 29, 2016 to install Windows 10 for free. After that a Windows 10 Home(if that's what's it's called) flash drive I believe will be $119 and the Windows 10 Professional flash drive will be $199.

You can use this tool and make a USB or DVD and do the install before the July 2016 Free offer ends. MS W10 Media Create Tool:http://www.microsoft.com/en-US/software-download/windows10?OCID=reserve_r_PostReserve_MediaCreationTool
I've had 2 flawless Upgrades to W10 using a DVD I burned from the MCT.
A point that is worth considering - you can revert back to your previous Windows approved OS (W7/8.1) if you don't like within 30 days of installing the Upgrade.
I understand that if you do the Fresh install route (you lose all your old Files) there is a problem trying to get back to your old OS. (have to contact MS). Neil.
