I want to format my C drive and do a clean reinstall of Win98SE. I have another hard drive (D). Am I safe in assuming that I can move the stuff I want to safeguard to the D drive and then move it back to the C after the clean install and all will be well?

Is there a good reason to buy a zip drive as added protection? I have been reading the reviews of Iomegas's new 750 MB zip on CNet and the reviews are almost equally split between the yeas and the nays. Bear in mind that the nays have CD R/W's or DVD's . I have a CD R/W but the 3 times I have tried to use it all I get is some mumbo-jumbo about buffer over-runs. I have a low threshold of exasperation and would rather buy something that works but many of the zip drive buyers seem to have had problems.

    Thanks

Shturmovik The secondary hard drive will work just fine for storing your personal data file on while you wipe the primary drive and install a clean OS.

You'll have to reinstall all your programs so be sure you have the necessary disks. Also be sure that you have any driver disks for hardware that may need them.

I wouldn't waste any money on a Zip drive, they're old school. Get more familar with that burner instead. Perhaps get Nero or some other good software and your burner problems may be a thing of the past.

    Good luck. :)

The next time you use your CD/RW try the following:
Make sure you do not have any programs running in the back ground, turn off your screen saver and burn at a slower speed.

In addition to what Russ said, turn off the autorun for the cdrw and any other cdrom you may have. Also, is the cdrw by any chance on the same ide controller as the hard drive. If so, try connecting it to the secondary ide controller instead.
