    Hi All

A well meaning colleague at our company head office decided to e-mail me at home all the details for a presentation that I had to do.
Thinking it would be quicker than postal service..........

This massive amount of information has resulted in blocking my outlook mail downloads by taking forever to "receive "..........

Unfortunately I only have modem connection and have tried leaving it for nearly an hour and i just keeps coming !!!

Is there anyway that I can get rid of this mail without downloading which I don't need now as presentation day came and went days ago but i'm left with this particular e-mail blocking all others........maybe.

    any suggestions appreciated

    Hi andronomad
What if you went to tools........accounts.....properties ....then the advanced tab....and chose to break apart messages larger than......(choose a manageable file size)?

You can use Mailwasher to delete it. If you prefer not to go that route you could make a rule in OE and in the rule choose to delete it from the server. There are number of choices you can use in the rule but however you do it, in the 2nd list of options choose delete from server. To create a rule, click on tools-message rules-mail. Once the file is deleted you can go back and delete the rule if you so desire.

I could be mistaken but I think that setting only has to do with messages that you send rather than those that you recieve. You or somebody else can correct me if I'm wrong. ;)

andronomad --Can you ask your friend to send the email again, but this time break it up at his end?
Or what about him making a .zip file of it?

    Hi guys,

Just a quick update having tried yr idea's........

Having checked out Daizy's idea it certainly seems that this option to break up mail is for sending only.....not receiving.

Have also checked Zander's idea to use the " mail message rules" under tools and whilst it seems that you could select the size of the mail or the senders address under section 1 and choose to delete from server under section 2 these could only be applied AFTER the message has arrived....this seems to be a mandatory default setting under section 3.

I shall phone the ISP and see if they can delete it from thier end.
I certainly don't want to d/load due to the time/cost factor.
    thanks for all yr help.

What version of OE are you using? If 6.0 you should be able to select "delete it from server" in section 2. It's the last entry in the list. Can't be sure (it's been a while) but I think OE 5 has that entry also.

    Hi Zander

    Running v6.00.2800.1123 outlook with XP-pro (sp1)

Yes you are correct but there is also a section 3 within the mail rules thats entitled "Rule Description" which summarises what you have selected under sections 1 & 2 (delete from server etc).

But section 3 has a default line already inserted within it which reads "apply this rule after the message arrives "........

So I assuming that whatever you select under sections 1 & 2 it won't be effective until the mail has arrived anyway which was what I was trying to avoid.......i.e. to delete the mail at the server end before "receiving ".......

Incidently I also d/loaded Mailwasher........but have yet to find where you can actually acheive what I want within that......as you know you can "bounce back" mails but they still have to be received in the first place ......as far as I can see.

    regards
    andro

    Hi andonomed,

I don't know if this will help you in your current situation but I assure you it will help you in the future!!

I just spent 20 minutes telling you about my experience with MailWasher. Somehow, I lost the post. :(

I won't go back and try to expound on its virtues again. (I'm too sleepy and 4:30 am is too close.) Just download it !!!!! And if you have any problems with it . . . E-mail for HELP!!

The help is there AND it's timely.

Nick & Co. are very serious about improving MailWasher whenever, wherever and however they can.

    I wouldn't be without MW. . . EVER again, :) :D :) :D

    HTH,

    Mike

Thanks for the catch Zander. Breaking up messages is indeed for sending. Thanks again.
