Resolved iPad and Win 8.1 on same e-mail account

    My wife has an iPad and I'm working with a new Win 8.1 laptop. We both use the same e-mail accounts on our computers. Today, I was trying to help sort out a problem on an e-mail she was working on.

    I was surprised to find that, with two computers on the same account, I couldn't look at or edit what she was working on, even after she logged off.

    Why, on the same account, can't we see each others drafts?

    Because a draft is saved on the machine that has created it. It is not like other things in there.

    That's true for POP email used on a 3rd party email application, but not so for online email.

    Let's start with this question to fdamp:

    Are the accounts Web mail or POP mail? As in Web mail like gmail/hotmail/yahoo or POP as your ISP email in Outlook or Thunderbird.

    I use the accounts that come as part of IE and Google Chrome. In this particular case we both were using Google.

    Those are web browser, not e-mail accounts.

    That is the address. What do you use to get your mail? Windows Live Mail, Outlook, Thunderbird or some other program?

    The mail arrives in my e-mail boxes from whatever program Comcast uses to send them out to our accounts' in-boxes. I don't see any mention of a separate mail program. A clickable link on the home page of each browser gets me to the in-box for the account.

    From a couple of Google searches, this seems to be a problem that Comcast has and they are working on it. They were a couple years old and nobody came back and said it was fixed. My suggestion would be to call Comcast and see if they can help you.

    Per the above you are using Comcast Webmail, not a separate email program.
    Comcast used browser cookies to store user login data. If your browser on the computer is set to "remember usernames and passwords" then clicking the Comcast email link will automatically log you into the Webmail. You won't have to type your username and password. When you are finished using Webmail, you are not completely logged out until you close all Web browser windows and tabs. That's when a Web session fully ends.

    On an iPad or mobile device, when you are finished using Webmail, you never really get fully logged out because the Web browser or email app is still running in the background. It must be manually closed out otherwise it will keep you logged into Webmail. The Web session may continue until the app(s) are fully stopped.

    Two devices should NOT have access the same Webmail account at the same time. That's standard security on mail Web servers.
