    Greetings...

I am hoping that someone can spare the time to help me with this query.

I have been asked if it is possible to automatically replace a particular word with a graphic. This is for a company logo, so that when somebody types the company name word will substitute it with the company logo without user input.

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Terry

Terry: I think you can do something like you want with AutoText.

First insert your company logo graphic into a blank word document then select the graphic and click Edit>Copy. Edit: actually you don't have to Edit>Copy just make sure your graphic is selected for the next step.

Next click on Insert>AutoText>New and name your new autotext "company" or something easy to remember. Make sure your graphic is still selected or "New" will be greyed out. Click on OK.

Now you should be able to type the work "company" in the document, hit the F3 key and the graphic will be inserted where the word "company was typed.

As the Autotext is stored in the normal.dot file you may have to set up each workstation with the same Autotext entry.

I know this isn't totally as automatic as you want, but may be close. You could also set up the Autotext insert as a macro and assign it to a toolbar button. In fact you may not want a totally automatic insertion as every time the word "company" is typed the graphic would be inserted!!!

Post back if this works for you.

Thanks JohnB - that does the job a treat. It is, however, one step away from what the big boys are after.

I think this must be able to be done as the requester (Co. President) had it happen at his previous company. Either that or I have only been given a half information :)

Am I right in thinking that I can copy this normal.dot file to each workstation, I don't need to set this up on each one manually?? If so I think I can automate this with our scriptlogic program which runs kixtart ?? Any experience of this ??

Thanks so much for coming back to me so quickly.

    Terry

Yes you probably could copy the normal.dot file to each station but bear in mind that any customization that the user's of the workstations have made in Word will be overwritten. (i.e, customized toolbars, buttons, macro's, autotext, etc. anything that the normal.dot template stores.)

Regrading your scriptlogic program, no don't have any experience. If you make it work, post back and let us know how it works (or doesn't.) Good info for all who read the BBS.:D

Well it's midnight here so am going off to get some ZZZZZZZZzzzzzzz's. GdNite.

Terry: Just found this in the "Help" for Word. (I have Word 2000) but should be similar: Look under "Add an AutoCorrect entry to store and insert text and graphics "

"Create an AutoCorrect entry to store and automatically insert text and graphics
Select the text or graphic you want to store as an AutoCorrect entry.
To store paragraph formatting with the entry, include the paragraph mark () in the selection.

On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect.

Make sure the Replace text as you type check box is selected.

In the Replace box, type a name for the AutoCorrect entry (that is, the abbreviation or word that Microsoft Word replaces automatically as you type).

    Do one of the following:
To save the entry without its original formatting, click Plain text.

To save the entry with its original formatting, click Formatted text.

    Click Add.
When you're ready to automatically insert the AutoCorrect entry, type the entry name, followed by a space or other punctuation.

Tip Word stores many common symbols as AutoCorrect entries. For example, you can type (c) to automatically insert . How to insert a built-in AutoCorrect symbol. You can also store your own symbols as AutoCorrect entries: Click Symbol on the Insert menu, click the symbol you want, click AutoCorrect, and then store the AutoCorrect entry as usual. "

    Now off to bed''!!!!

Edit: I just tried this and it works. You will have to use a unique or unusual word for your "replace" word or the comp. logo will be popping up everywhere!!! (Make sure your graphic is selected as the entry for the "Replace with" box.
