I had a favorite desktop background that I got from a website on my laptop that is runnung WIN98SE--is there anyway to transfer or copy that background from the laptop to the desktop running XP?
The only means I have to copy it with is a floppy--the laptop has a CD rom but cannot write to it.

If I understand you correctly.. you just want to move the file from one computer to another.... email it, if large, zip it first. Fast simple, nothing to setup.
ALSO... I email WORD Doc.'s from my office XP (NTFS) to my house w95 (FAT32). No translation problems.

    Hi paul43

If your lucky.. go to explorer, follow path
    C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper
The background picture your looking for should be in this view. If file association has moved it... use "FIND ", search on *.bmp or *.jpg .... Once you find the file your looking for,
Right Click| Send To| select... Mail Recipient.
    Post back. Good luck.

paul43 - "null modem" describes a particular wiring scheme for the cable. Darned if I know why that name but probably one of the old-time hardware pros will. Something similar to what they do for a "crossover" ethernet cable where the wires don't all go from the same pin number at one end to the connector at the other.

Any good computer shop that does repairs should have them and I was always able to borrow one for a day or so from a shop I regularly did business with. Otherwise - not expensive to buy and if you are going to keep the old box, you may want one around.

Haven't tried NTFS to FAT32 with DCC but with any other sort of network connection it is a non-issue since the network piece is the one that has to examine the files and it will speak both NTFS and FAT. My guess would be that you won't have any problems.

Thanks Newt, that looks like it's over my head. I'm going to try what Dennis suggested and it that doesn't work I'm just going to forget it.
