Hi All, .......... I'm just getting acquainted with Windows 8.1. A recent happening presents me with something that i can't recover from. For some reason all the files I opened ended on the Task bar and I can't remove (delete) them. Their inclusion has pushed folders that I intentionally pinned to the Task bar out of sight. Does anyone have a solution to this situation?

Hi retiredlearner, Please bear with me. As I implied in the first Post I'm just becoming familiar with Win8.1. It appears to me that your first link offers a solution, but because I'm spending so much time getting the new computer up to date, I haven't been able to verify that that link will provide a solution. Once I get better organized I'll get back to you. Thank you for your interest and help so far.

Hello Again retiredlearner, The link you included in your first Post, "Clear lists on the start menu and task bar," is a video. Sad to say it didn't work on my 8.1 system. The video discussion requires a right click on the task bar, then a click on Properties, which brings up a new screen on which should be a reference to Screen Menu. My new screen site did not have a Screen Menu reference so that is as far as i could go.

However, my daughter ---working on her Win7 computer---found a reference which works. The procedure: Right click on the Task Bar and on the next screen click on Tool Bars, then uncheck Desktop. This removes the unwanted
file or folder names from the Task Bar. Thanks again for the links you provided.

Sorry I was unable to help, but where would we be without our tech savvy kids these days? :D
Thanks for passing on fix/remedy in case others run into that problem.
Good to know you're all up and running again. Neil.
