What is the history of the pc? Has it been working all week and now it won't boot up?

    Was it recently moved etc?

My guess would be a faulty power supply.

    Hi clif.

Adding to what Steve said, you might try taking out all but one stick of RAM and seeing if that may uncover the reason why the machine fails to POST.

Other than a possible bad power supply, you could have a bad motherboard or CPU. Do you see any bulging capacitors on the motherboard and is the computer free of any dust?

All of above is overcome by events. He decided to junk it and
    get a new one.

As stated, it was old and refurbished several years ago.

Near as i can figure, it could not find the CD drive (initial problem).
Removing the side cover, a loose wire was discovered in one of the plug-ins. When the pc was put on its side, the wire end slid across part of
    the MB.

    Oh well!

Thanks for all the feedback tho.
