During the initial download of Q810565 using "windows update" an interruption ocurred resulting in an installation failure. I then manually downloaded the executable file and saved it on my hard drive. During installation attempts I now get a setup error "Setup could not verify the integrity of the file update. inf. Make sure the cryptographic service is running on this computer ". I verified the crypto service is in auto and started in the admin tools > services. I also placed crypto in manual to no avail. I did a second download and saved it and get the same results during the setup attempt. SP1 and all updates until 810565 installed correctly. I deleted all files referencing Q810565 prior to each attempt. Is there a file or Reg. location I'm not finding during the search that gets altered and will create this error. The system restore will not reload prior my first attempt at installing this update, therefore I can't go back. Your assistance please.

Just to make sure the hotfix really failed, take a look at the following files and see if you have the versions shown below or older. The time stamp on them is UTC (was GMT) so you will have to correct for your time zone.

What a coincidence! I just this morning downloaded the latest version of BelArc Advisor (version 5.1k). After running it, I noticed that it now has been upgraded to list all hot patches that are installed on the system. I also, noticed that one of the hot patches (Q810565) was marked with a red X, and the word 'Reinstall.'

A quick visit to the Windowsupdater site and a check of my history indicated that the patch Q810565 was installed satisfactorily on 12/20/2002. hmm...

Returning to BelArc Advisor and running it again still showed the patch in question as needing re-installing. Here's the good part, BelArc lists a link, when you click details, that will take you to the download site and allow re-installing the patch. I followed that link, selected "Open" rather than download to disk, and the Wizard did its work. It took a couple minutes of patient waiting but eventually it reported its success.

Re-running BelArc Advisor now shows the path as being successfully installed!

I hope this Iliad is helpful to you robertaz

DynamicD , you may be correct but I don't see that mentioned on the M$ link for Q810565

It wouldn't be the first time they confused me though.

    :)

The message referred to in that link seems to have been deleted.

Please clarify for future value to this thread, did you rename the Catroot or the Catroot2 folder?

    Thanks.

I apologize. I was so overwhelmed to have this problem resolved I labeled the folder incorrectly. It should be %Systemroot%\System32\Catroot2 folder to CatrootOLD.
