anyone know where to get a file converter (that really works), to convert old paperport files (*.MAX) to either DOCX or even PDF files ?

    Thanks

.max files are scanned documents saved as images by Scansoft software (Paperport).

This free software can read them and save them as pdf files on Linux:
    http://sourceforge.net/projects/maxview/

On Windows you'll have to use Paperport or Omnipage to open the files:

To convert to a Word file you'd need some OCR software to transform the "image of text" to editable text in Word.

Another solution is to use the free Paperport Viewer to open and view the .max files:
http://support.visioneer.com/Knowle...You Need a Viewer for PaperPort MAX Files.asp
then use the Print Screen key to capture the screen > paste into Microsoft Paint > Save as an image file.

thank you, but i was looking for an open source (free or at least low cost) converter for "dotMAX to something else (image or PDF type) file.
i confess i am not a LINUX user, so the first link is not helpful.

Can you view/read the dotmax files? If so you could send the files the a PDF printer program that will create PDF's. I use BullZip...
