U can use the command "format c: /s" after starting up the pc with a start up disk (make shure the disk as the format.com/exe file)

Or even simpler go to the bios setup; make shure the computer starts up thru the CD drive before drive C; then start up your computer with windows XP CD inserted and just follow the options. Windows setup program lets u format the disk and make the partions u want.

    good luck...

There are a couple of scenarios that make it more difficult than usual:

    1. The drive may be formatted in NTFS and won't be visible to a normal boot disk session. You won't be able to use the FORMAT C: /S in that instance.

    2. Your particular computer may not allow booting from the CD-ROM drive. Some don't.

The solution in those cases is to boot to a good Win98 boot disk (or equal) and run FDISK, which will recognize the partitions. Delete any/all existing ones and repartition to suit yourself. Believe me, they'll be blank. :) Format them after a reboot for recognition and you'll be all set.

    Cheers. :)

Ok... so... I must have "so coled "... STARTUP DISK ". I was made one in computer who have Windows ME installed on it. Why can´t I make one in Windows XP?
Than... restart computer, and after few minutes... choose option number 2, and than write... format c:

Ok... this is short explanation but... if I miss something important, PLEASE let me know.

And... I have single partition, FAT32.

    Thank You for helping me

    Best Regards

Yes, you can make what XP calls a Ms-Dos Start Up Disk. Place a blank diskette in the A: drive, open My Computer, right click the Floppy Drive Icon, select "Format" and tag the box labeled "Create an Ms-Dos Startup Disk. "

I must warn you that it won't have the Format.com command on it though. It will only have the Command.com and Format isn't an internal command thereof. Space permitting, you can load Format.com onto that disk. That should work to give you what you want. The Format.com command you get from XP is somewhat different than what would be on a Win98 boot disk. You may prefer one over the other, depending on what OS you intend to reload and what format you prefer.

In any event, since you have FAT32 format now, you shouldn't have any problems reformatting from a DOS prompt using any suitable boot disk.

    :)
