    From Price watch. I'm not all that good on deciding whuch is the best, so can someone help me? I'm using it mainly for gaming and stuff. Like, how much more noticable is 266 FSB to 533 FSB?

    And which board would be better for gaming? I'm alwing hearing stuff about Athlon being good, how tru is that? Please just give me some suggestions.

    Thanks.

    -Lee.

    PS. - I'm not going for really expensive. Just decent price, quality hardware, you know, someone with a sort of shallow wallet.

    Hmm

    Well this is just me but i allways have trusted ASUS, although they say Abit is better for gamming because it supports over clocking and ive used both and they are supper solid boards. ASUS is by far the best. as far as the FSB the higher the better one will work as good as the other at these speeds best of luck, i use the asus p4b board becuse it still lets me use the 133mhz memory, save one a ton of money.

    Thanks. I'm not good at all at using price watch. Think you (or someone else) could give me some links to the site to order, or a page of good combos? Nothing terribly fast. Like 1.8 +. Thanks for all the help.

    I'm looking at some kits on http://www.actonlinestore.com/ and I'm wondering if a ECS K7SEM266 motherboard is worth anything? The kit is priced nicely for me, but I don't want anything that will be ****.

    Anyone know of any good sites that review motherboards and processors? Or just a good link to a reliable company that I can do a barebone kit at? Thanks for all the help.

    Monarchcomputer (close to you, I think)

    Newegg

    Both reliable and with good merchandise to the best of my knowlege. I bought the components for my present computer at the second site.
    I can't comment on the motherboard combo you mentioned cuz I've only had experience with an older HP oem and this newer one with an Iwill KK266 which has been good for me. Reported to be very oc-able (I don't do oc-ing) and got great reviews at Tomshardware .

    Try Envision Computer Solutions. They built my current box (below) and I am very happy with it. They also do MoBo Combos

    http://www.envisioncs.net/

    SharkyExtreme Has reviews of MoBos

    AMDzone also has reviews.

    Only buy a name brand MoBo. Something by ASUS, Abit, or Gigabyte.

    I think I've found a good deal, all I need is to check to see if it all is compatable. This is all the info I could find, but if it's not enough, let me know and I'll find some more, or you could research real quick for me. So here are the specs:

    Asus A7N266-VM with AMD Athlon XP 1600 (1.40 Ghz) 266 FSB CPU & fan

    Socket A for AMD Athlon XP/Athlon/Duron, NVIDIA nForce 220-D, NVIDIA IGP-64 and NVIDIA MCP-D, 2x 184-pin DIMM Sockects support max. 1.0 GB
    PC2100/PC1600 non-ECC DDR SDRAM memory

    $136.89

    +++++

    512 MB RAM
    DDR PC2100 - CL=2.5 - Unbuffered - Non-parity - 7.5 ns - 2.5V - 64Meg x 64

    131.39

    ---------------------------------------------

    I'm pretty sure it all is compatable, just making sure, thanks for all the help though, I'll have a look at those before I go for this one though.

    One more question-

    Here are it's key specs:

    Key Specifications:

    * Supports Socket A AMD Duron, Athlon, and Athlon XP up to 1900+ and beyond
    * NVIDIA nForce 220-D: NVIDIA IGP-64 north bridge and NVIDIA MCP-D south bridge
    * 200/266MHz front side bus
    * Integrated NVIDIA GeForce2 graphics core
    * Realtek® ALC650 audio module
    * 2 DIMMs up to 1.0GB of PC2100/1600 non ECC DDR memory support
    * Integrated MAC in MCP-D (Optional)
    * 3 PCI slots, and 1 AGP 4X slot
    * MicroATX form factor

    -----------------------------------

    Does the Realtek audio module mean onboard sound? I've never heard it put that way if it does.

    Thanks for all the help!

    The A7N266-VM has optional on board sound. So if it doesn't say that it comes with audio it probably doesn't.

    My ASUS MoBo has on board sound and I am very happy with its performance.

    The nVidia based MoBos have gotten very good reviews. And that seems like a very good price (but I have not been looking recently-so I don't really know).

    Its not cutting edge technology, but I think you will be happy with it.

    :cool:

    That should be a good set up for the money. The new nforce2 boards are just coming out and that is why you are getting a great price. It should have onboard sound. Try this forum for all things nforce. http://www.nforcershq.com/forum/
