In the process of gathering information to update my computer info, I discovered that WMI was not running. When I tried to start it I got error 126. After some searching for methods to fix it, none of which worked, I ran the WMI diagnostic tool. There are errors indicated in the resulting log but they mean little to me and no suggestions fix them. Actually I got the impression that the tool was supposed to fix problems but I guess not. One thing that did stand out was error code 80080005. This is unlikely just a coincidence as it relates to my other problem http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-7/108603-cannot-install-kb2592687.html.

After more than 4 hours the repair finished but no joy. I'm installing the readiness tool next.

Unfortunately I'm not making much progress. From what I read, I'm supposed to run this command:

    Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth

When I do I get this error:

Deployment Image Servicing and Management tool
    Version: 6.1.7600.16385

    Image Version: 6.1.7601.18489

    Error: 87

The checkhealth option is not recognized in this context.
For more information, refer to the help.

The DISM log file can be found at C:\windows\Logs\DISM\dism.log

System readiness tool did the trick. WMI now runs and my install failure problem is resolved as well.
