In the advanced section of Outlook I have the "Empty deleted items folders when exiting outlook" unchecked. However when I delete a contact, close outlook and come back to contacts later the deleted contact has disappeared.
No doubt there is something stupid that I am doing. Can anyone help please?

Which version of Outlook... I was unable to recreate this in an older 2000 version.

It there a reason why you would delete a contact and want it to stay in the deleted folder?

I am using 2010. In fact it was several contacts that I deleted by mistake. Luckily I had them located elsewhere that time, but next time I might not be so lucky.

When you delete a contact it isn't moved to the deleted items folder. You get the warnig it will be removed permanently:

It isn't the address book, it is my outlook contacts and no warning shown.

Ah... ic. I never used that.

But deleting a contact does move it to the Deleted Items folder.

If you do a Shift+Delete on a contact it is not moved to the Deleted Items folder.

So I would 1st check if items are moved there if you delete them.

If not, you may need to do a repair on that folder.
