I asked the same question last autumn about what firewall/antivirus/antimalware to use - see here http://www.windowsbbs.com/security-...internet-security-antivirus-software-use.html

Thank you all for your replies then.

Now I am running W8.1 Pro, I'm wondering what now?

Is MS Defender good enough? If not, what should I use instead. I have 2 months free Norton IS 2014. Should I extend this or replace it with something else?

I have a lifetime licence for Superantispyware. Also use Trusteer Rapport and WOT.

Any further thoughts welcome. Software that doesn't jam the PC is better!!! I don't mind buying good software.

    Hi SarahB,
Yes, MS Defender is great in my opinion. I would not use Norton IS!
Defender with SuperAntiSpyware and WOT will be good enough to start with.
W8.1 is far more secure than any previous MS OS. I've been using W8.1 on 2 comps since August 2013 and have had no problems with Security.
MalwareBytes would be my other choice. Neil.

Thank you Neil for this reply. I've gone with Malwarebytes, WOT and Trusteer Rapport.
