It's an 'older' laptop, a Compaq Presario 1620...
    P 166Mhz. 128MB
I thought, "Hey, let's try XP on it. "
EVERYTHING went well. (well, the onscreen volume display doesn't work, but I can do without that...and it doesn't shutdown/restart without hitting power, but I can do without that too!)
The only thing that didn't "TAKE" that I can't do without is a CODE 29 on the internal "Compaq Presario 56K VSC modem" saying that Windows disabled the modem because the firmware of the device didn't give it the required resources.
What can be done to correct this? Being that it's an older modem, I'd imagine the driver's installed from the XP cd. (besides I can't get ANY info from Compaq) And it does say there are no conflicts but does say "IRQ ? "
Under Computer, I unchecked use MS table and PCIBIOS and that didn't help, then also unchecked use steering...didn't work.
Manually changed resource irq to 3 - put all the checks back - didn't help either.
