Resolved Error opening installation file

    I lost MS kb954430 and kb97368 when I reinstalled Win7 Professional. I downloaded from MS site and got message " Error opening installation file. Verify the specified log file location exists and is writable." MS community work around did not work which consisted of disabling and re enabling explorer.exe in task manager. Google search was no help.

    Hi jwiltsing. Have other Windows Updates installed with no issues on your machine? Do you have Windows 7 SP1 installed?

    Click Start< Run and type WindowsUpdate.log and hit enter. Post the last 100 lines or so of the log file in your next reply.

    I have Win7 SP 1 and have no problem with other updates.This info is my Compaq Win7 Home premium desktop. I have same problem with my Dell Win7 Professional laptop. Thanks.

    I am not seeing any errors in your log file. If you click Start< All Programs< Windows Update< Check for Updates do those updates show up as wanting to be installed?

    Does Windows 7 show as being up to date in the Windows Update window? Is there a reason why you trying to install KB954430 when it applies to MSXML Service Pack 2 which has been superseded by this, MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 3 (Microsoft XML Core Services)?

    KB954430 (Security Update for MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2) I not compatible with Windows 7:

    KB954430 was installed on my Dell when I purchased it. Don't know why. Thanks for the help. Problem solved.
