When I was running Win 9SE on my old computer I ran across and article that explained what most of the items in the start-up menu where and what to remove and what to keep--does anybody know of any information like that about XP Pro?

XP normally runs quite a few processes Paul and some of them are unfamilar to most of us mere mortals. Take a look here and it may become clearer to you.

Just keep in mind that processes and applications are two different animals. Also keep in mind that XP manages to run several applications and processes without any Resource problems, that's one reason it's so much better than Win9x.

    :)
