When I run chkdsk /r to check the system files, I watch the screen go thru the usual details of the 5 steps of the process but at the end the screen clears and ends up with the regular desktop.

Is there any way to get/save the final report so I can see if any files required repair?

    Pete,

Thanks for the link, but still no luck.

Chkdsk /r was run at boot up

In the event viewer under Applications and Service Logs there is nothing resembling "wininit" or "event id 1001" on either the left or right side that I could find.

I'm interested in the suggestion to pipe the text to a file using the sample noted

    chkdsk X: /V /F > X:\chkdsklog.txt

where X is the drive letter ie C:

    Questions:
    1. Does this work in Win7
    2. Does the saved .txt file have to be in a different drive than the source C: drive?
    3. What's the difference between /F = Fix and /R = Repair?
