There are reports that Windows update is refusing to fetch the re-released patch.

Susan Bradley, a Microsoft MVP and volunteer moderator on the Windows Update subsection of Microsoft's support forum, and a noted patch expert who writes for Windows Secrets, posted to the long discussion thread August 27, 2014:

    Susan's rules of re-release.

    1. Don't be first to install this.

    2. HAVE A BACKUP

    3. Did I happen to mention - have a backup?

Her advice is to just "hang loose" for a while.

I was alerted to KB2993651 today. I assume it is the replacement for the previously botched update.

    Sigh.

Uninstall (KB2993651) another botched Windows 7 update?

If it is already installed and you are not seeing any problems, I would leave it be.

James, I just had a phone call from my older brother who couldn't get a couple of MS Updates to install...... I told him to do nothing until I investigated.
He should be OK - he's using W7 Pro 32 bit. These problems were with 64 bit users as I read it. Correct? Neil.

    I think so.

I have a 64-bit system, but no problems to speak of here.

    Confused about what to do:

One computer running Vista 32 bit SP2 with KB 2982791 installed and no apparent problems. Should I uninstall it and replace it with KB 2993651?

Another computer running W7 32 bit SP1. KB 2982791 not installed. Should I install KB 2993651?

    Concerns are:

    1) if the Vista comp "ain't broke, don't fix it "?
    2) heard the replacement patch KB 2993651 has problems itself.
    3) if I don't install it,will future updates be affected?

    TIA .

In addition to what antik recommends, I would sit on my hands for 24 hours ... :p ... to find out whether KB2993651 will be replaced by another one this month.
