    This is strange. O/S = W2K
Have had problems with NS 7 from day one, with error messages and all.

Anyway there appear to be 2 Netscape 7's running on my machine. The one that automatically starts up when I log-on the internet and the one sitting in the system tray, which I double click to start up. Used the msconfig to de-check the startup for NS 7 but still get the same thing.

Have uninstalled & reinstalled 3 times. Still the same. Anybody know why this is happening.

The first NS 7 doesn't have the bookmarks and address list. The second one does.

    Should I abandon NS7?

    Sal_gal,

You may want to take a look at the clean install instructions for Netscape 7 found here. They include instructions for removing 7 completely and starting fresh. I wouldn't give up on 7 yet. I have been using it for browsing for awhile with no problems. Give the instructions a try and let us know how you come out.

    Hi Sal_gal,

The Netscape icon sitting in your System Tray is Quick Launch.

If you have less than 256Mb of RAM, it is not recommended to have the Quick Launch icon running. It achieves launching Netscape 7 quickly because most of the Netscape program is still loaded in memory in the background, and affecting performance because of its relatively large footprint. If you have 256Mb of RAM or more, then it is OK to keep it.

To disable NETSCP, right-click on the icon in the System Tray and choose "Disable Quick Launch ".

Note: it is also recommend that you disable NETSCP in Startup Manager as it has the annoying feature of starting the AOL Instant Messenger at boot-up.

You may have enabled the feature during installation, as it is one of the options.

Let us know if this helps.

Just tried to right click, not there

Quick Launch is not there. I did a right click. I have a properties, nothing there about quick launch. I'll have to uninstall again, which I've done a zillion times and hope that this works. if not, I'll have to abandon N/S 7. This seems to have happened only with W2K.

Question: Does Mozilla have an address or messenger program with it. I had Opera on my old machine; I may just go with that since it has an address book and mail serv.

    Hi Sal_gal,

Do you have more than one Netscape Profile?

If you have used msconfig, and removed Netscape from the Startup, there shouldn't be an icon in the System Tray.

In your install/uninstalls did you remove all Netscape files, including your Profile? I recall that at one time you had Mozilla and Netscape 6 installed. Do you still have them on your system? I wonder if a Profile from one of them is still in your Profiles folder? Have you checked that out? It is not possible to run two versions of Netscape concurrently, and I'm confused when you say that you have two Netscape.

I think you need to start from scratch, and do the "Clean Install" including the Registry files, and your Profile folder (be sure to back up first). You will need to also follow STEP TWO in the Clean Install instructions, as you do seem to have a mess!

If you still have Mozilla and Netscape 6 on your System, get rid of them too. You can install them later, once you have solved your Netscape 7 issues.

When you reinstall, do the Custom Install, and this time be certain that you do not enable Quick Launch.

Post back with results, or if you have more questions.

SPLIT THE THREAD AND MOVED OPERA POSTS

    Hi Sal_gal and tranquillo,

I split the thread and moved the posts pertaining to Opera Software to the "Other Internet Software" Forum.
    .

FYI, Sal_gal, there is also an Opera Forum where you may want to post your problems: Opera Community Forums

In the meantime I will be more than happy to continue working with you on Netscape 7.

NS 7 is a funny program

It's a very funny program. It seems to be allergic to W2K and possibly the tiny firewall that is installed. I haven't figured out what the problem is, but I've got enough browsers installed to keep me going.

I'm writing this using NS7, it's working OK; but who knows about tomorrow????
