    Hi All,

My sister has a few years old dell running Win 7 with all updates. The PC is not on all the time so when she shuts down there may be a bunch of updates to install which happens without incident. Then the next time she turns it on (which could be a few days!) the updates finish, seemingly without incident. However most times if there were a bunch of updates the system comes up without internet, even though the icon in the system tray indicates internet access. I was there once when this happened and I was at a loss. The only thing I could do, and what she does, is to reboot several times and usually after the 3rd or so try everything is back to normal including full internet access.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? When I have the updates I bring up Win Update and start it while Win 7 is still fully up and if necessary do the restart right then and I have never had that problem!

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Gerry

Without sitting at the machine and running a couple of commands, it is difficult to pin down. I agree with you on the shutdown and then the next morning the updates are installed--I do that myself. However, I might suggest that updates are shown to you instead of automatically being installed. Once, an Nvidia update to my Vid card scragged the system and I now I watch which updates are to be installed.

With that said, next time she has no internet access, left click on the Orb, (some call it the start button, left click on all programs, left click on accessories, right click on command prompt, and left click on "run as admin'. In this so-called DOS box type in the command "ipconfig /all" without the quotes and tell me your output.. I'm looking for something like this:
