I D/Loaded ASC - free version and installed it.

(install also put in a uninstaller program without asking if i wanted it).

Ran the cleanup parts and it found some garbage files to cleanup. No problem
    so far.

Upon the next boot up tho, It showed some commands(?) that looked like DOS
commands where each disk was being checked. Not realsure because all i
saw was a command (?) followed by a short line of "#" signs for each HD
partition. After the last partition was checked, my system re-booted and all
of above was repeated - a very tight loop with my system unable to boot up.

No other options (safe, last good, etc) would let me break this loop.

But, I did have acronis F11 key available and was able to restore my system.
Acronis worked great but just to be sure i also restored the MBR because i
thought that might have gotten changed.
Unsure what happened but user beware.

Anyone can shed some info on this (and what happened) please let me
    know......

Hi clif. I've never used Advanced System Care but if you had it clean the registry or certain junk files you should make sure you look over what changes it will make to your system before running it otherwise as you found out it can cause issues with Windows.

This goes for any system optimization program out there. Always pay attention to see what the program wants you to remove and if you don't know what those entries are then leave them alone. Its a good thing you had a backup of your data but you should be very cautious when running these types of applications.

I used ASC a few version ago with no problems, did a pretty good job cleaning as this
version did also. It was some different (hidden?) program that caused the problem.

However, after re-storing with acronis everything is looking good.
I normally run revo to uninstall then these atf, ccleaner and eusing reg cleaner as a
weekly routine. Seems to do a pretty good job of keeping cleaned up.

Acronis is a monthly or bi-weekly chore always keeping 3 restores (son, father, grandfather), in other words, backup for the backups and at least one backup off site.

    Does good for me...... :)

Hi Clif, Is this what you saw at IObit Download?

Would seem that they have put something in hoping you didn't notice it. Neil.

I actually d/l it from majorgeeks.com but its the same.

I hate it when "they" use the population for field testing a product without
    prior knowledge.
