removing Norton anti virus from PC

    My Norton anti virus has expired and am now using AVG instead.
    I went to remove programs...however norton or Symantec does not show up.
    I tried to remove it from my start up (msconfig) but it isn't there either............does this mean that the program was installed without the installer?
    Can anybody help please?
