I took advantage of your (SpywareDR) post #9 with success so why would I go back only to update zero day IE flaw? Your opinion please 'DR and others.

    kind regards,

I don't use IE, so I am still miffed why I would need to go back to install the IE flaw spending vulnerable time on line. I am not questioning your judgement but need to understand.

    kind regards,

No problem. Click Start > Run, type in, (or copy and paste):

    regsvr32 "%CommonProgramFiles%\Microsoft Shared\VGX\vgx.dll "

    and press [Enter].

(IOW, same command sans the "-u ").

All suggestions reversed, Windows XP update downloaded and installed, then reversed again with no issues at all. Now the big question...... how many times will I be able to go online before my Windows XP laptop is compromised.

Many thanks again for your guidance.

    best wishes,

Dont go to dirty websites. They cause the so-called buffer overflows and thats where a possible intrusion can happen.

Dont go to dirty websites. That's where the so-called buffer overflows can happen and a possible intrusion can happen..Otherwise, I ain't changing real soon..--=But then again I have two more 7 machines, one 8 machine and three more XPs..Might be fun to experiment and see what happens

I've decided to keep my XP tower system, but to use it only for photo editing and printing and for Quicken, It will NOT be connected to the internet once I get my new laptop.

The new box will be Win 7, since I don't want to start over trying to figure out Win 8.1. DW has an iPad, which I understand Win 8.1 is trying to emulate, and I can't understand the **** thing at all. It looks to me as if Steve Jobs took a deliberate, maybe bloody-minded, decision to make the Apple software as different from Microsoft as possible, so he could cultivate a different set of users. I have no plans to try and learn the iPad and have made it clear to DW that there won't be any expert help from me.

I will be getting a new all-in-one wireless printer-scanner-copier-fax which can interpret both ePrint and AirPrint.
