I recently had to exchange my C drive for a cloned drive. Now IE comes up every time I reboot my computer. (IE is not my default browser - running WinXP). How can I stop this recurring? Any help would be appreciated. :)

    Hi goldenpirate.

What version of Internet Explorer does your Windows XP system have installed?

Lets see what is starting up with your machine. Please download Autoruns. After you download the zipped folder on your desktop, right click the zipped folder and click Extract All. After the folder has been extracted open the regular folder. Run the autoruns.exe program by double clicking on it. When you open the program click the Logon Tab and then post a screenshot of all the startup entries in your next reply.

hi, sorry for the long delay in replying - had some major health issues that needed resolving before anything else. Downloaded and ran Autoruns as suggested. Founds lots of unrelated problems including the loss of the mouse right click (Microsoft Windows Installer wanted to install MS Office every time I right clicked - now fixed - removed Office) In reply to which version IE was installed - IE8 (the last that was released for XP). Unfortunately, not being a paid subscriber, I cant post an image as requested. However, on a closer look at the Autoruns (Logon tab), there is only one reference to Internet Explorer:

    UpdateFlow.telstra Internet Explorer Microsoft Corporation c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe 8/03/2009 9:34 PM

So, in hindsight, this might be where my problem originates. If that is the case then there is nothing I can do about it because that could be related to a tool kit provided by Telstra, my IP.

There is one other reference to this tool kit:

    telstra_McciTrayApp mcci+McciTrayApp Alcatel-Lucent c:\program files\telstra\toolkit\pctrayapp.exe 3/03/2013 10:32 AM

And having just run the tool kit program - GUESS WHAT! Problem solved. My *!@??$#@ IP has the tool kit program locked into Internet Explorer. Guess I'm going to have to disable "updateflow.telstra" and hope I don't lose the tool kit

Sorry to have been so long winded about this. But I would say: PROBLEM SOLVED.

Thank You for your patience.

Thank You All at Windows BBS for the birthday wishes.

Usually in IE you can click on Tools/Internet Options/Programs and make IE default. Been that way since I can't remember when. Probably back in IE 4 or 5.

Sorry, but IE is NOT my default browser by choice and since MS is no longer supporting Windows XP it will stay that way (because of financial reasons I am not able to upgrade to a later version of Windows so for the moment I'm stuck with Windows XP). I use Mozilla Firefox as my default browser - it's a lot quicker and a lot safer, or so I have read in other forums.
