    I have a dell inspiron 530 and I thought the hard drive was bad because all it would do is boot to bios. the troubleshooting thing would come on and say it can't fix it so I put a new hard drive in. with win 7 and it loaded fine but when it shut down to do whatever it does. it came back with the win logo but that's all I sat and wated for about a half hour and nothing else happens. I shut it off to try again and the same thing. do you think there is something wrong besides the hard drive or do I format and try again.;

Hi bebuzz68, Was the W7 Hard drive operating in another comp?
Or did you put the hard drive in and load W7 to it?
Have you checked ALL connections are clean and tight?
    Have you checked RAM? Neil.

I formatted hd then put in win 7
I checked most of the cables and the sata cable is a little loose, would that affect it. band I didn't check the ram how do you do that, other than putting in new ones.

Did the W7 OS fully open to your Desktop?
Is the W7 a legit copy?
    Did you load Motherboard drivers?

To check your RAM at this point - ensure they are installed fully with clean connections.
Just Googled Dell Inspiron 530 specs and that comp was produced with Vista 32 bit OS. How long have you had it running with the W7 OS?
I'm wondering whether the CPU is causing your problem and further comments I read suggested a weakness in the Dell Motherboard. Neil.

To clarify - your Dell Inspiron 530 was running W7 (version)?? from new.

Could you please fill in your UserCP > System Details as this will help us to help you. Don't forget to scroll to the bottom of the page and SAVE before closing out.

You did a Format (wiped drive clean) installed W7? and it only got to LOGO and stalled.
It won't proceed to Desktop and you can't install drivers?
Sounds like something in the hardware is failing. CD/DVD ROM? Neil.

Hi bebuzz68, If you try to re-install W7 with another ROM drive, do it at the slowest speed you can set the drive to.

Are all your Vista drivers compatible with W7?
I would have thought that you would need to get/use W7 drivers after upgrading from Vista to W7. Do you need SATA drivers for the Hard Drive?

Here's a link to an explanation of what the KB2919335 update changes: Exploring Windows 8.1 Update. http://blogs.technet.com/b/askpfepl...rt-screen-desktop-and-other-enhancements.aspx Neil.

I give up going to junk it.

You may have a faulty HD. Have you tried the HD manufacturers Test? Neil.

When you installed W7 on the HD, did the installation complete fully?
Did it Restart and Boot up normally? Neil.

I wonder if having the SATA boot drive connected to port 1 would make a difference. Can jumper settings affect an SATA drive's performance?

Hi James, I don't think there are any jumpers to worry about with SATA?
I would like bebuzz68 to fill in his System Details as we would get a better idea of what hie Dell Inspiron is installed with.
Dell make so many variations as per your demand and I would suggest the use of Speccy http://www.piriform.com/speccy to find out this info.

I'm starting to think that either onboard graphics, low output PSU or a corrupt DVD of W7 might be the problem. Neil.

I'm not completely sure myself, as I am fairly new to SATA.

That could be very helpful, and I encourage all new members reading this to do the same.

Sounds like a possible hardware problem, or a faulty disk (as you said). Maybe bebuzz could try downloading a Windows 7 ISO from here, and either burning it to disk, or to a USB stick and booting from either to reinstall Windows.
